History of MNSHAPE/MNAHPERD/MAHPERD and Minnesota in SHAPE America Central District
There is documentation that the Minnesota state association began in 1910 but disbanded after 1916 and revived in 1924. In the fall of 2014, the Minnesota Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (MNAHPERD) changed its name to the Minnesota Society of Health and Physical Educators (MNSHAPE). This decision was made after the American Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD), founded in 1885, changed its name to the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE America).
