Announcements from MDE for the 2022-2023 School YearAcademic Standards Delay in Physical EducationOn March 20, 2023 Governor Tim Walz signed into law Chapter 17, House File 112 postponing the next review and revision of the physical education standards from the 2022-2023 school year to the 2026-2027 school year. In 2017, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) adopted the most recent Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) physical education standards, replacing the National Association of Sport and Physical Education standards. We updated the physical education standards only a few years ago and delaying this standard review process will provide relief for all MN physical education teachers by allowing time to focus on implementing the current standards for students. Special shout out to MNSHAPE and MNDAPE for all the support to make this happen! Monthly Professional DevelopmentThe Minnesota Department of Education, in partnership with MNSHAPE and MN DAPE, will occur in pre-recorded videos and will be posted to the MNSHAPE and MDE websites. Below are the planned dates and session topics. See all previous standards implementation professional development videos here. New Physical Education Resources |
